New Product Provides Expert Tips and Strategies for Addressing the Varying Behaviors of Alzheimer's disease

San Antonio, Texas, November 1, 2007) Lightbridge Healthcare Research will now be able to assist the 10 million Americans caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease within the comfort of their own homes or offices. Their new CD-ROM series called Enlightened Alzheimer Caregiving empowers at-home caregivers with a greater understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and the changes expected with varying stages.

The first two CDs include Overview of Alzheimer’s Disease and Volume 1: Managing the Difficulties of Mealtime and are now available for preview and purchase at www.LightBridgeHealthcare.com. The CDs offer strategic tips and research-based information as well as personal interviews with caregivers and creative coping strategies. Funding from the National Institute of Health has enabled LightBridge Healthcare Research to develop these products which are affordable, easy-to-use, and available in English and Spanish.

Managing the Difficulties of Mealtime is the first volume in this series to turn your attention to behaviors related to a specific topic. From wandering and pacing to dehydration and constipation, this CD provides the viewer with an awareness of the diseases effects, as well as solutions on how to improve difficult situations a caregiver may encounter. Other features of the CDs include user-friendly navigation, interactive learning methods, encyclopedia-like glossary, frequently asked questions, search capabilities and so much more. In developing these caregiver training programs, LightBridge collaborated with leading academic researchers, clinical practitioners and national Universities including University of Maryland, University of Texas, University of Iowa, Duke University School of Nursing, and the University of New Mexico.

Complementing the research-based educational programs on the CD-ROMs is LightBridge’s content-rich website. Users will find research updates, articles, and a community forum where caregivers can interact, share information, and ask questions.

LightBridge Healthcare Research has also entered into a strategic alliance with the national Alzheimer’s Association. Both organizations have announced that they have formed a licensing partnership intended to help provide caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients with the most up-to-date information and resources about the disease and other related dementias. The Alzheimer’s Association will feature the Enlightened Alzheimer Caregiving series on its web site, and 15% of the sales of the CDs will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association to help further their mission.

“The Alzheimer’s Association is devoted to improving care for people living with Alzheimer’s and providing support for their caregivers. This is echoed through various existing tools such as the 24-hour helpline as well as the new online suite of services called CareSource, which features the Enlightened Alzheimer’s Caregiving,” said Peter Reed, PhD, MPH, senior director of programs at the Alzheimer’s Association.
