MARIA C. APPELZOLLER, Ph.D.
Dr. Appelzoller has a Ph.D. in Women’s Studies. She currently works with Companion Care in Albuquerque, NM, providing in-home personal care and services to assist clients with activities of daily living. She is a patient care hospice volunteer at the Heritage Home Health Care and Hospice in Albuquerque, NM and the Hospice of El Paso, TX. She also visits with residents in nursing home settings, teaches other volunteers about techniques for patient visits, and has initiated a resident-pal program at Monte Vista Nursing Center in El Paso, TX.

 PROF. GUSTAVO ROMÁN, MD FACP FRSM (Lond)
Dr. Gustavo Román is Professor of Medicine & Neurology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio,Texas. Dr. Román trained in Neurology at the Salpêtrière Hospital, University of Paris, France and at the University of Vermont. Dr. Román is an internationally recognized expert in Vascular Dementia. He was Chief of the Neuroepidemiology Branch at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, and served as advisor to the Food and Drug Administration of the United States of America. He is the recipient of the Commendation Medal of the US Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Román has authored and co-authored 16 books, over 35 chapters in books, and more than 300 journal articles. He co-organized twice the successful International Congress on Vascular Dementia (Geneva, 1999, Salzburg 2002) and is currently the local organizer in San Antonio, Texas, of Vas-Cog 2007, the IIIrd Congress of the International Society for Vascular Cognitive and Behavioral Disorders. He is the current Editor-in-Chief of the journal Neuroepidemiology and editorial board member for Journal of the Neurological Sciences, Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders, Stroke, Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, Revista de Neurología(Barcelona) and Neurología (Spain), and ad-hoc reviewer for numerous neurological journals. Dr. Mary Guerriero Austrom, is a Wesley P. Martin Professor of Alzheimer’s Disease Education. She is a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry and the Director of Education Core at the Indiana Alzheimer Disease Center at Indiana University School of Medicine.Dr. Guerriero Austrom is supported in part by NIH PHS P30 AG 010133.
